Just Like My Father
You act just like your father,
Words I long to hear.
Not because I’m acting careless,
Or being insincere.
For the reasons I must hear it,
Are because It’s my desire.
To emulate his character,
Forever aiming higher.
I know I won’t be perfect,
Or seen without a sin.
But if I’m like my father,
Well, that would make me grin.
For I’m made in his image,
That is exactly what he said.
So daily I strive to make it,
Aiming higher to what I’ve read.
I will try to have his character,
Showing the fruit, it should produce.
I want to hear him say well done,
When my time on earth is through.
