PureTalk | When Your Soul Doesn't Have the Words
The Psalms remind us that God never expected us to pretend we were okay. Instead, He gave us a collection of prayers filled with honest emotions, fear, sorrow, confusion, loneliness, anger, hope, and trust. David and the other psalmists weren't afraid to ask difficult questions like, "How long, O Lord?" or "Why have You forsaken me?" Their honesty wasn't a sign of weak faith; it was evidence of a real relationship with God.
Looking Back
If we always look into the past instead of moving forward, we may feel anger, hurt, and bitterness about the life we expected to have but don't. Looking back at the past when God tells us precisely to move on could harden us, just like it did Lot's wife. We might feel that betrayal and bitterness continue to grow if we keep looking back. It hardens us.
